EHS Team with any questions
Laboratory Training
- Affiliate with your PI on ATLAS Learning Center in “My Profile”
- Complete your required trainings in “My Training Needs” tab
- Once lab specific training is complete your EHS Rep will submit the Lab specific Training form
- Once the training has been recorded the request for access will be submitted
- Please allow 1 to 2 business days for access to go through
- Go to ATLAS Learning Center
- Click the “My Profile” Tab
- Click “Update PI/Activities
- Search for name of PI
- Save and continue
- Go to ATLAS Learning Center
- Make sure you are already affiliated with your PI
- Go to “My Training Needs”
- Complete the items that are incomplete
- The deparmtnent Chemical Hygene Plan
- Managing Hazardous Waste – Atlas Course EHS00501
Chemical Handling
- Go to https://airgas-mit-edu.ezproxy.canberra.edu.au/
- Click Buy2Pay
- Follow Quickcard for Returning Cylinders
- Notify AeroAstro EHS Team
- Transporter must be trained in General Chemical Hygine – EHS00100 via ATLAS
- Cylinder must be capped and secured to a cylinder cart
- Secure cylinder at new location
- Update EHSA if this is a permanent move
Safety Slides – Chemical Spills
- Major Spill – Call EHS x23477 or Dial 100
- Minor Spill – follow instructions for clean up
- Notify AeroAstro EHS Team
- MIT accepts all types of batteries for recycling, including alkaline batteries.
- Batteries that must be recycled include: rechargeable batteries such as nickel cadmium, nickel metal hydride, lithium ion (button batteries used in watches and hearing aids), laptop batteries and lead acid batteries.
- Battery terminals should be taped as a fire prevention measure during collection and transportation.
- Battery disposal bins are located in DMCs and all residence halls. You may also take batteries to the Stratton Student Center, lower level; Facilities Stockroom, E19-107; and the VWR Stockroom, 56-068.
Laboratory Procedures
All information on Green Cards should be verified and reprinted at the start of each semester
- Go to ATLAS, click the PI Space tab
- Click “Room: Create/Change/Display”
- Select your Lab and the Room
- Scroll to the bottom of the page
- Click Display Green Card
- Pick up green paper from 17-209
- Print and put in plastic slot outside your lab
- Go to ATLAS Learning Center
- Click the “PI Space” tab
- Click “Annual Chemical Reporting”
- Fill in the relevant data
- EHS Coordinator will send a reminder email and inspection invite
- Refer to the Level 2 inspection checklist (pdf) for findings
- Check that all trainings have been completed for all laboratory members
- Monitor cleanliness before arrival
- Fill out the Standard Operating Procedure (doc)
- Submit the completed form to aa-help-ehs@mit.edu
- Recieve approval from AeroAstro EHS Coordinator
- Project may begin

- Follow the instructions
